The National Register of Historic Places was established in 1966 to help coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect our historic and archeological resources. During the Preservation Board meeting, the historic significance of the above resources and the National Register criteria for listing will be discussed.
Listing in the National Register provides recognition of a property's historic importance and assures review of federally funded or permitted projects that might impact the historic character of the property. If the property is listed, certain federal tax credits for rehabilitation and other provisions may apply. Listing in the National Register does not mean that limitations will be placed on properties by the federal government. The nomination process requires that owners and local officials are afforded the opportunity to comment on the proposed listing. Below is additional information outlining the results of listing in the National Register, and explaining the rights and procedures by which an owner may comment on or object to listing in the National Register.
The Preservation Board meeting will take place in the Labor & Industry Building, located at the corner of Forster and North Seventh Streets in Harrisburg. The meeting has two parts, beginning with a 9:45am general business meeting followed by the review and discussion of the nominations. Review of the nominations begins at 12:15pm. You may choose to attend the entire meeting or only the afternoon nomination reviews, if you wish. If you would like to attend the meeting, please bring photo identification with you and check-in at the reception desk in the lobby. Metered street parking and a parking garage is nearby; the meeting location is eight blocks from the Harrisburg Amtrak Station. We regret that lunch is not provided, but many restaurants are nearby.
Note: Perkasie Park shareholders will receive formal notification by mail of the meeting, with details about the process.
